Bones

Bones

Son Lux is back with Bones, an unrestrained, passionate 40-minute collection of booming crescendos crashing against hushed, haunting whispers. After a few listens, 2013's studio album, Lanterns — which was a masterpiece in its own right — seems small in comparison.

Bones is tough to describe because its only consistency is contrast: it feels rushed and relaxed, both loud and hushed, crashing and quiet, noisy and intricate. Though less orchestral and more unpredictable than Lanterns, it feels like a natural evolution, pushing boundaries without sacrificing the careful, thoughtful intentionality that makes Son Lux who they are. Bones is just slightly more raw, more frustrated, more human.
